Marine Realms Information Bank
Prepared by the USGS Coastal and Marine Geology Program at the Woods Hole Field Center and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, is intended to organize and provide access to documents and resources relating to the marine and coastal environment.
Water Data for the Nation
Allows access to multiple types of US water data (e.g., surface water, groundwater, and water quality). Real-time data are available for surface water and groundwater sites (on the date of review, the Red River of the North was 16 feet above flood stage at Grand Forks, ND). Extended data sets are available for many sites, some for more than a hundred years.
Wildfinder
Tool for researching Earth's animals. Users can search by city name, zip code, country, or other place-names. "Search by Species" is currently limited to amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Database had records for more than 26,000 species. From the World Wildlife Fund.
SIMBAD Astronomical Database
Gateway for users in the US to the SIMBAD astronomical database operated by France's Centre de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg. Essential resource for research astronomers. Contains information on 3.3 million astronomical objects, including stars, clusters of stars, nebulae, novae, supernovae, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies.
Structural Geology Page
Provides a comprehensive array of hypertext links to resources in structural geology and in the deeper area of tectonics, including plate tectonics. It is a superb reference resource site in a fundamental component of earth science.
Planetary Society
Promotes grassroots exploration of space through funding novel and innovative projects such as the Solar Sail. Lobbies for space exploration; provides news coverage and discussion of current selected events; promotes the search for extraterrestrial intelligence; and provides a learning center that offers a detailed introduction to the universe
American Chemical Society

Organic Chemistry Resources Worldwide
Aim is to provide an organized set of links to information for organic chemistry researchers.
Atlas of Rocks, Minerals and Textures
From the University of North Carolina. A good beginning to building a resource for introductory petrology. Image library provides thin sections of some 40 minerals, as well as separately organized images of plutonic, volcanic, and metamorphic microtextures.
Chemistry Web Book
Comprehensive source for chemical and physical property data for chemical compounds. From the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
E-print Network: Research Communications for Scientists and Engineers
This site links the user to the full-text of scientific research papers and technical documents in the fields of science and engineering. The e-prints are searchable by author, title, subject, keyword; they are also browsable.
Wright Center for Science Education
The site from Tufts University offers a link to classroom activities for teachers and other links to the "Arrow of Time" where you can "view the past, present and future of the universe" and the "Science Olympiad." One of the goals of this site is to "improve science teaching in elementary and secondary schools."
Digital Library for Earth System Education
This is a great site for science educators. It allows topic search narrowed by grade level and resource type. It also links to National Science Education Standards by grade level.
Energy Citations Database
Includes bibliographic records for energy and energy-related information from the U.S. Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies from 1948 to the present.
