Highlights in Periodicals
Spring of 2007 saw the compression of the Periodicals Collection to accommodate housing the Library's Media Center on the second floor. Paper and microform journals duplicated in online sources were removed from shelves. The result is a compact collection that can be searched more rapidly for those journals available only in hard copy.
Several Library departments deserve thanks for assisting Periodicals. Cataloging updated records promptly to help users locate materials. Documents vacated shelving on the north side of the floor by cataloging U.S. Documents into the Main Collection. Circulation staff removed unneeded shelving on the south side of the floor to storage. Other departments helped as requested. Their assistance is very much appreciated.
The Index to Texas Magazines and Documents continues its online presence in addition to 35 subscribers to the 2007 index.
Highlights in Interlibrary Loan
The Interlibrary Loan Department continued to provide good turnaround time for books and articles requested by faculty, staff, and students. This year our filled rate rose for books rose to 93.9% and 96.85% for journal articles.
The department assisted the Media Center in circulation of audiovisual materials to the nursing campuses in Cuero, Gonzales and Hallettsville. Audiovisual materials were also sent to the off-campus ITV classes held in Yoakum, Bloomington, Port Lavaca, Goliad, Shiner, and Hallettsville.
Assistance was also given to the Periodicals Department with the downsizing of the periodicals collection.
