Highlights

Media Library Move

This was the biggest task undertaken by the Media Library staff. Plans for moving the Media Library from its space in University Center back to the Main Library started in January 2007. During the Spring 2007, available space was considered and analyzed, with final recommendations made by architect, Rawley McCoy. In March and April, the Curriculum textbook collection was moved. New Media CenterThe rest of the Media Center (and staff) were moved to our new space in August, 2007. When we moved to the UHV Center Building in 2000, the shelves and furniture were already put up for us when we got there. This time around it was a total different story. With only 4 staff members, the move was completed within a period of 12 days -one day ahead of schedule. We are still waiting for the completion of our new space, with viewing rooms, electrical, and other technical installations pending.

Digital Rights

To prepare for the move to the main library and the additional technology services that the library will be providing our students, the library was able to purchase approximately 27 DVD titles that included digital rights that could be used for on and off campus access via the library website or the Tiltrac. The majority of the titles purchased were in the subject area of nursing.

Video on Demand

Approximately 18 video titles were purchased from the Films Media Group under the Video on Demand package. Under the agreement with FMG, the library leases the video titles for a period of three years. Library patrons will have access to the video programs via the FMG website and can view them from their home computers.

Weeding

To prepare for the move to the main library, extensive weeding was done. The majority of items weeded were in the form of VHS.

Media Bibliographies

With the assistance of Dave Ticen and Paula Packard, the Media Bibliographies were changed over to Access. There are currently a total of 36 bibliographies in the Media Center website. Every time that an item is added to a bibliography by the Media Center assistant, the update is immediately made on the website.
