Highlights
Media Center Relocation
In support of the Media Center relocation, the Circulation Department was involved with these projects :
- Dismantling shelves from the Periodicals department that held microfilm in the back area.
- Relocating and shifting of government and Texas documents.
- Building shelves and rearranging Cataloging department.
- Moved magazine rack from Periodicals to reference area.
- Dismantled all ranges in Periodicals public area and prepared them for shipment to offsite storage. Spare parts were boxed and stacked together for shipment. Other shelving materials that were not kept were sent to surplus while some materials were transported to the Maintenance room for storage.
- Relocating of Index materials back to end of Q-Z section in Main.
Regional History Reorganization
Circulation helped to prepare the Regional History Center for changes concerning the introduction of the Miller Collection as well as the relocation of some Special Collections items. The entire Regional History Collection was shifted in order to make room for Special Collections items that were being relocated, city directories and the incoming Miller Collection.
Curriculum Collection
As part of the Media Center relocation, the Curriculum Collection was moved into the Circulation Area. The Circulation Department was reorganized to accomodate shelving for this collection. The Curriculum Collection was boxed up by the Media Center staff and unboxed by the Circulation Staff. As part of this relocation, the decision was made to reclassify the Curriculum Collection into the Library of Congress Classification System. The Circulation Department is participating in this ongoing project taking sections of the collection to the Catalog Department as they request.
Other Projects
- Book repair duties were shifted to the Acquisitions Department. All repair books and supplies were given to the Acquisitions Department.
- The latest issue of the Victoria Advocate are now being held at the Circulation desk for checkout in reserve status.
- Circulation received two new Zebra double sided printers in order to implement the new designs for both UHV and VC ID cards.
- Circulation began issuing pin numbers to new and current card holders in order to prepare them for the implementation of the PC-Cop program on the public terminals on the 1st floor.
- Greg and Rachel cleaned out Horizon student records that were unused for seven years and had lost books and fines. Records were purged and lost item lists were turned in to the Cataloging Department for bib record maintenance.
- Greg and Rachel proceeded to delete all patron records in Ivis that were made prior to 2002. Records of students and Nonas were deleted while faculty and staff records from both UHV and VC were left in order verify current employment at a later time. Project is still ongoing.
- Greg is rewriting the circulation department manual in order to keep it up to date and to make it digitally available to other library staff online. Project is ongoing.
Personnel Changes
Rachel Tejeda resigned her position as Circulation Assistant at the end of July. Elena Sanderson was started as the new Circulation Assistant in September. Shannan Buchholz resigned her position as student assistant at the end of May. Kara Rippstein, Roberto Tonsul, Eden Gonzalez, Cherlyn Hodge and George Ortiz remain as part of staff for new fiscal year.
