Cataloging/Government Documents Department

Accomplishments

In fiscal 2006, a major project for the Cataloging/Documents Department was the cataloging of the Fastback series, gift of the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Foundation. Now, the Library Catalog contains 334 separate cataloged items in this series. Each volume is searchable by appropriate Library of Congress subject headings or the series browse for “Fastback” can be used.

During the summer of 2006, in-house job procedure manuals were updated by the Cataloging Assistant and the Documents Assistant. More of the physical processing - labeling, stripping, and stamping - was re-assigned from the Cataloging Assistant to the Documents Assistant. Reasons for this were the continued decline in numbers of paper United States and Texas Documents received and the need for the Cataloging Assistant to concentrate on new material cataloging and special bibliographic projects.

A procedures manual was created for the new Cataloging Librarian, Marc Vezeau, who joined the Department in late August. Paula Packard was moved to the Library’s first floor and joined the Public Services Department as Web Services Librarian.
