Accomplishments
  • Sheron contributed 3 articles to Victoria: Crossroads of South Texas
    • "Using Newspaper Indexes for Genealogical Research: the Personal Name Index to the New York Times" (Fall 2004)
    • "Newly Acquired Books, Microfilm, and Preservation Resources at the Victoria College/University of Houston-Victoria Library" (Winter 2004)
    • "The Dorothy Meyer Collection" (Summer 2005)
  • Sheron served as a member of the Victoria County Historical Commission and on its Early Victoria County Settlement Committee.
  • In September 2004, Sheron presented "Genealogy Resources Available at the Victoira Regional History Center" at the Texas Hispanic Genealogy Conference.
  • Bob Allen and other VHRC staff were at the "Silk Purse...Sow's Ear?" Antique Appraisal Fair sponsored by the Museum of the Coastal Bend. Bob copies photographs to added to the Photograph Collection and Sheron advised attendees on the preservation of family papers and photographs.
  • VHRC had a booth at the Macaroni Fest in November 2004.
  • VRHC staff participated in the Museum of the Coastal Bend Annual Family History Workshop.
  • Addition of an Omega photograph enlarger, copy stand and Nikon 35 mm camera and accessories. Purchased with donated funds by the Victoria County Genealogical Society.
Collections

The Victoria Regional History Center is proud to receive the following manuscript collections:

  • The Alfreda Mueller Huck Collection - Dewitt County history, genealogical information, photographs, published works, and newspaper clippings
  • United Daughters of the Confederacy Artifact Collection - Civil War era weapons and other objects
  • Tim Von Dohlen Collection - related to years of service in the Texas House of Representatives
  • Lavaca County School Records - transferred by the Lavaca County Clerk to the Regional Historical Resource Depository.
  • 1,562 print and 1,876 negatives added to the VHRC Photography Collection.
