New Electronic Services in 2002-2003

 

  The Library's ability to serve students and faculty outside our walls is entirely (and obviously) based on technology. The resources provided to libraries via the Internet and other relatively new technologies allow us to copy, scan, digitize and push information to our users in ways undreamed of just ten years ago.
  • Ask A Librarian, email and MSN chat service
    • 133 email questions answered; reference services provided in 2 chat sessions
  • TDNet Serial Holdings Management System
  • Links to Journals within Electronic Databases
  • Links to Online Catalog for print holdings created for 1,458 serial titles, and 197 governement documents
  • Links to approx. 100 individual journal web pages for access to current electronic issues
  • Web Site Development
  • Karen Locher and Paula Packard attended Cold Fusion training
    [Cold Fusion is an interface used for making in-house databases available and searchable via the web
  • Entire site re-designed for an improved ease of use and navigation
  • Distance Education pages and instructions for off-campus access re-written and enhanced
  • Five new study guides and tutorials added to the web site
  • 688 print based Reserve materials provided online for 42 instructors
  • Victoria Regional History Center
    • Online Photograph Collection revised and arranged by subject
    • Searchable Indianola Immigrant Database published online
    • Bibliography of German-American Geneaological Resources posted
  • Museum of the Coastal Bend - entire web site redesigned for visual impact and content
  • Media Holdings Digitation and Rights Expansion
  • 204 individual CD tracks converted to MP3 for electronic audio reserves
  • Video digital rights obtained for 12 programs for online classes
