ANNUAL
REPORT 2001-2002

The VC/UHV
Library is committed to anticipating and satisfying the
information and research needs of the Victoria College and
University of Houston-Victoria communities, and supporting
these institutions in their respective missions.
The Victoria College/UH-Victoria Library serves as a primary
research resource for Victoria County and a region of
fourteen other surrounding counties. The major role
of the Library is to serve the curricular and research needs
of students, faculty, and staff of Victoria College and UH-Victoria.
An important but secondary role is to provide informational services
to the community and region, within the limits allowed by the Library's
resources. To serve the patrons of the Library in the best
possible way, the Library is committed to cooperation and the sharing
of resources with other libraries in the city, region, state, and
nation.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Library has had a busy
year. Important activities have included the following:
- Several of the staff
have been involved in the self-study process for reaffirmation
visits by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools'
Commission on Colleges in the spring of 2003.
- The Library continues
to expand it's holding of online full-text resources. The Library has
provided remote access to these resources for over two years,
and this has been the single most popular service the Library
has ever offered.
- The Library has completed
three grant projects this year, with funding from the
Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) Board, TexShare,
and the Formosa Plastics Religious Trust.
- The Library has worked
closely with the Victoria County Genealogical Society in their
work to produce another family history volume, History and Heritage
of Victoria County . The Society has made a generous donation
of $10,000 to the Library to support collections and services in
the area of regional and genealogical history.
- The Library continues to publish the Index to Texas Magazines and Documents.
Library staff realized a need for a good, reliable index to Texas resources
and, in 1984 began this publication. Currently the Library produces
68 copies for 65 subscribers across the state.
- The cooperation between
Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria continues
to provide excellent resources and services for the students
and faculty of both institutions. Victoria College students
have a larger book collection in the VC/UHV Library than is available
to any other community college student in the state of Texas.
When compared to other state universities, the VC/UHV Library
has more books per student than any other public university in Texas.
